Founded in January, 1999 by embedded systems expert Michael Barr, Netrino, LLC is headquartered in Elkridge, Maryland. From its inception the firm has specialized in the design and implementation of custom microprocessor-based electronics and related software for clients in a wide range of industries, from consumer electronics to medical devices and everything in between.

Netrino is in the business of working closely with each client company to achieve its product design goals. Structured entirely as a services firm, Netrino clients maintain the rights to all generated intellectual property, such as patents. Long-term trust relationships and successful projects result from the marriage of Netrino's breadth and depth of experience in the integration of mechanical, electrical, and software engineering with client industry/domain expertise.

Netrino is structured as three complementary divisions: Netrino Labs, Netrino Consulting, and Netrino Institute. The Netrino Labs division specializes in the design and development of products. Its most popular services include turn-key product development as well as firmware development assistance.

Netrino Consulting provides technical guidance to engineering directors and company executives. These consultations are generally focused on improving the quality of critical decisions, such as the choice of an appropriate processor or real-time operating system, or the implementation of engineering management best practices. Through this division, Netrino engineers also consult with attorneys, as expert witnesses.

The Netrino Institute division focuses on improving the skills of embedded systems designers through continuing education. Netrino Institute offers a complete curriculum of lecture-style and hands-on skills training courses and a certification process for firmware engineers.
